Jobs being cut at WHOI after federal funding gets pulled
One of the largest focuses of the current federal administration has been cutting public funding across every sector. While Massachusetts has managed to stay afloat in many sectors due to the massive concentration of wealth in the state, we have not proven immune to these cuts.
According to the Cape Cod Times, these cuts have eliminated a total of twenty-six positions at the institute. While WHOI could not be reached for comment, multiple interns and staff in various positions have told us that this has drastically impacted the amount of research they're able to take on.
There is no way to tell whether these job cuts will continue, or what impact they may ultimately have, given that WHOI is one of the largest employers of people with higher education on the Cape.
